Sherpa Cultural Trek

14 Days

Panchase danda lies almost 28 km west of Pokhara.

Overview

Experience once in a lifetime adventure in Nepal away from your busy life and right into the arms of untouched nature. Explore the mighty Himalayas of eastern Nepal and the distant social life of the area. The oldest Sherpa settlements resting on the laps of the highest peaks of the world are awaiting your journey into the treacherous paths of the Sherpa Culture trek.

The trek offers the scenic beauty of the rugged himalayan regions of Nepal and also lets you experience the oldest of Sherpa traditions and cultures.

Right after landing at Lukla Airport your journey into the wilderness of the Mountain region of Nepal begins. The raw views of Everest, Phortse, Ama-dablam, Thamserku are a few of the many peaks you will get to observe so closely.

The famous Namche Bazaar with its monasteries and views of snow capped mountains is one of the bustling tourist destinations around the region. However, we are on the trek to experience the Sherpa culture and their traditions. The Trek takes you to one of the oldest monasteries said to house the head of a Yeti. Similarly, the trip takes you to many other sacred and ancient monasteries around the Everest region.

Besides the places of cultural significance, you can also visit some of the establishments of Sir Edmund Hillary which include a school and a small tree nursery. Rhododendron forests and Chortens Stupas are scattered all over the trekking routes making the trip majestic.

The best season for the trek is Feb-May and Sept-Nov. The trek provides plenty of opportunities to dive into Sherpa culture around the extreme environment of the Himalayan region of eastern Nepal. The cultural and the natural aspect of the trek makes it one of the best trekking trips of Nepal.

At Trek Nepal Trips, we are committed to making your trek the best experience you will ever have. Itinerary

Our representative will pick you up right after you land at Kathmandu. We will directly transfer you to our hotel where you can rest for the day. We would recommend you to roam around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening.

Today is our preparation day. We will buy all the required materials for the trek and we will also meet our guide and discuss our trip

3 hrs.
Early the next day, you will be picked for your flight to Lukla. You will be able to witness the majestic Everest during the flight among other peaks. After you land, you will be greeted by the Sherpas and we will start our trek right away. After a 4 hour trek you will arrive at Phakding. Continuing through the cedar woods and pine forest we will reach the first camp of Phakding where we will spend the night.

6hrs.
After breakfast ,we will begin our trek to Namche Bazar. We will be greeted by close-up views of Ama-dablam, Phortse peak, Thamserku, Kusungkangru, Kantega as well Lotshe and Mt. Everest. Finally you will reach Namche Bazar and stay overnight at the lodge.

The Namche Bazar is surrounded on 3 sides by mountain ranges. It is the central hub of this village where we can buy mountain climbing equipment, food and sundries. We will spend the night here to adapt our bodies to the high altitude.

5 - 6 hours
Our trail leads west along the valley of the Bhote Koshi River with astonishing views of the Himalayas including Kusum Kanguru (6,373 m), Kongde Ri (6 ,187 m) and Khubi Yul La (5,765 m). Our trek passes through Phorte where a tree nursery was established by sir Edmund Hillary's Himalayan Trust. We will cross a bridge and make a steep climb to Thame, located at an important junction along the old trade route between the region and Tibet via the Nanaga La (pass). We will stay the night in Thame.

5 hours
After having breakfast, we will climb up to the famous airstrip of Syangboche. Just above the airstrip is the Everest view Hotel, which provides great views of the highest mountain on Earth. Khumjung valley is surrounded by Himalayas which include Thamserku, Kongde and the sacred khumbila. After we reach there, we can get to visit the Khumjung Monastery (a monastery famous for housing the head of the yeti!) and the Edmund Hillary school.

5 hours
From Khumjung we hike to Phortse. We can enjoy the mesmerizing view of Taboche, Phortse, Ama Dablam, Kangtanga, thamserku and Cholatse and many others while on our path. Phortse village is situated in the Khumbu region, south of Mt. Everest off the main trekking route. We will spend the night there

4 - 5 hours.
Today's trek is a hard but short climb after which we move steadily alongside a ridge to Pangboche. On the way we visit Pangboche Gumba where we get to see the footprint of the Lama Sangwa Dorje. The houses of Pangboche lie above the terraced fields making it look like a large crescent moon.

2 hours.
From pangboche, we trek eastward and join the main trail of the Everest Base Camp. Then the trail descends to Tengboche, a village that houses the famous Tengboche monastery which is the largest monastery of the Everest region. Amidst the Sagarmatha National Park (a UNESCO world heritage site), we can get a panoramic view of the nearby mountains which include Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. The monastery opens at 3 pm so we can reach there by 3. And if we are lucky we get to visit a religious ceremony.

5 - 6 hours.
With 2-3 hours of trek we arrive at Phunge Thanka through Chortens Stupas and the majestic Rhododendron Forest where we stop for lunch. After lunch we start descending for 1 and ½ hour and cross a suspension bridge. The fairly tough descent will take us to Namche Bazaar. We will stay at a lodge in the bazaar for the night.

6-7 hours.
After having breakfast, we will continue through Sagarmatha National Park and reach Phakding. We will continue along the Dudhkoshi river trail and after crossing a suspension bridge we will reach Lukla. Here, we will stay for the night and enjoy the region for one last time.

After a short roam around Lukla we will be taking a morning flight to the capital. The flight will obviously consist of the majestic view of Everest which you will be seeing for the last time from such a close distance.

After your stay at the hotel, you will be driven back to the International Airport for your flight.
